Physiology

Cardiopulmonary physiology is central to our curricula in pulmonary and critical care medicine. Our fellows have regular exposure to physiology experts at both MGH and BIDMC through a formal didactic series as well as during their regular rotations. Fellows have a dedicated month on our Physiology Rotation, where they are exposed to level 1-3 Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing and interpretation, as well as Pulmonary Function Testing and interpretation, and right heart catheterization performance and interpretation. Throughout the year, a faculty expert in pulmonary physiology holds fellow-only evening sessions focused on a variety of advance pulmonary physiology topics. During ICU rotations, fellows meet individually with respiratory therapists and a faculty member with expertise in mechanical ventilation to advance their ventilator management skills.
